Met a Fellow Stutterer at a Gas Station, Went Great I was getting drinks at a gas station with my friend and I talked to the cashier as I checked out and stuttered a little bit, then my friend checked out. The cashier asked my friend if I had a speech impediment, and my friend looked at me and said "I don't know, do you?" and I looked at the cashier and was like "yeah I have a stutter," and he smiled and goes "me too man!" and we talked for a minute about it. When it came time to leave I told him my name and asked him his, and I said "nice to meet you man," and he started to say it back but he blocked on it and couldn't get it out. Instead of it being awkward, we just gave each other a laugh and a knowing smile, shook hands, and we went on our way. It was a really cool interaction. Super nice guy. The fact that he noticed I stuttered and wasn't afraid to point it out and make that little connection with me made me smile and made my afternoon that much better. Just wanted to post about it here and let you guys know we are not alone. If you ever meet someone else with a stutter in public, never hesitate to say something and let them know you do too. The gesture goes a long way, and you might make a friend!
