I think you might be being too harsh on yourself. People can be a lot more understanding of people with issues communicating than you think. The older I get the more I realize a lot of our embarrassment and shame is inside our own heads. I'm not saying they're aren't adults out there who are immature and rude about people with speech issues, but for all you know, she could be very forgiving and not thinking to herself that you butchered it. That's awesome that you took a step out of your comfort zone. It might not have gone down the way you imagined, but it's a great step in the right direction, it's very brave to do.
