I look away because it's generally hard for me to maintain eye contact when a person is talking to me (it makes me concentrate on the eye contact and not on what they're saying). Also, a person with a stutter has told me that they're uncomfortable when they get stuck and people stare at them. It makes them close their eyes and panic. So I apply this to people who stutter in general. For me, someone who doesn't stutter, talking is a lot easier with people who look me in the eyes for a brief moment here and there rather than staring intently. Also, it seems to me that a person who gets stuck on a word is being stared in the eyes, it must feel to them like they're being watched, you know, like an attraction or something, that's too why I look away. So, what is correct? What do you guys actually prefer?
