Some thoughts and things that help me be fluent So I’ve had a moderate stutter my whole life. Recently though, this past month, I’ve been the most fluent I’ve been in a while. I wanted to share some reasons as to why my speech has been so good. 1. The main thing I think about, is taking my time when speaking and phrasing. This is the basis for every time I speak. Since if I get ahead of myself and stutter early on in a conversation, I find that I lose confidence early on and the stutter gets worse as I progress 2. Breathing. Since I now speak in a much more controlled and slower manner, I can actively focus on breathing and having proper air flow when I’m speaking. With pausing before words that cause me trouble, I can asses myself and my body, and relax everything before speaking the word 3. This one is honestly been huge for me. It is SPEAKING WITH EMOTION AND INTONATION. Ever since I began speaking with more vocal inflection and emotion, my speaking has been significantly more fluent. Not only does it make people want to listen more, if you speak with more emotion and inflection, but it has really helped with my fluency overall. There are some more things I do, but these are the overall basics. If you have any questions or thoughts on these please ask!!
