Is there a way to practice becoming a better speaker online? So I've matched with this amazing woman on a dating app, but thanks to you-know-what we're not gonna be meeting any time soon. We're also both busy with our classes, but we wanted to Netflix Party at some point (for those who don't know, Netflix Party is a Chrome Extension that lets you screenshare Netflix with your friends, allowing you all to talk to each other too), and I kinda wanted to call her at some point too. The problem is, I think I came across pretty well while we were texting, but I am a very uncharismatic speaker. I guess this is mainly because I stutter and mumble, but the more I listen to myself, I notice other things (i.e. when I'm nervous, it comes across very obviously, I have some trouble with intonation, etc.). I'm also good at saying witty/funny things over text, but not so much when I'm talking to someone; this is partly because I get a little bit more time to think when texting, but also because I can kinda feel a stutter block coming on, so most of the time if I think of something funny to say, I won't say it if the sentence is "too complicated" for me. I had speech therapy a few years ago, but it didn't really help (strangely, I didn't stutter that much around my therapist). One thing I was gonna try was reenacting some of my favorite movie/TV scenes, famouse speeches etc. However, I would like something interactive, because it's interpersonal communication that I'm struggling with. There are going to be some online Model UN conferences that I might partake in once classes are over. Does anyone have any other ideas or general tips that helped them with similar issues? I'm a simp and I really want to impress this woman. (jk... kinda)
