I’m a 26 year old man and I can relate. I have severe social anxiety too and it sucks. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I think I know what you mean when you say you can’t say words at times. I think these are called blocks. I get them too. Does your throat tense up when you have these “blocks”? When I get them, it feels like my vocal cords (I think that’s where it is) closes shut and I can’t make sound leave my mouth. It’s very frustrating and embarrassing, especially when the person you’re talking to is impatient and tries to rush you. It’s possible to improve your speech and social anxiety. It’s best to start as early as possible. Besides speech therapy, there are breathing exercises which are supposed to make you get in the habit of breathing more often. This may help relax your vocal cords. For your social anxiety, self help books may help. I recommend The Solution to Social Anxiety by Aziz Gazipura. Seeing a therapist may help too if you can get one. It’s best to reduce the social anxiety as soon as possible because it tends to grow with age and get worse. The depression resulting from social anxiety and a stutter is horrible. I’m confident that you’ll be successful in life. If you need anyone to talk to, I’m available. Hang in there and know that you’re a strong person and will be victorious.
