Hello i am 23m stutterer and i have been to speech therapist, psychologist, hypnotherapist and through each one i got different experiences so let me explain each one Speech therapy-they give excersices for breathing and speech flow and they completely ignored the mental aspects of Stuttering and how it can affects us and were focused on just psychically improving my speech, honestly it was pretty bad experience and i was disappointed, i wouldn't recommend speech therapy it's not worth it, but you can try for yourself everyone is different. Psychologist-they considered stuttering as pyschological problem and it's not physical it's just through some events we developed stuttering, they focus on healing and improving ourselves as a whole and not just focus on stuttering and it's beneficial, they try and help us to cope with mental struggles that come with Stuttering and how can we maintain good mental health and improve our confidence and be positive about it and try to accept it. Hypnotherapy-This was also somewhat was helpful, they viewed stuttering as a problem which can be fixed and they saw it as a problem that we have with ourselves, but they view it as a very small problem abs did not understand very well the mental aspects of Stuttering and how it works, they have me hypnotherapy and did hypnosis and nlp and meditation and it definitely have it's benefits i felt a lot good and positive and confident after doing all this. What i would recommend is start doing meditation it's a big thing and it would definitely help it's a great tool. What i have experienced going through all these doctors that they themselves don't understand stuttering that well and they don't know much about it they are confused about how to treat it and what works and what will not work and i completely understand if their method didn't worked for me because everybody's stuttering is different and so there might be different solution for everyone. And above all that i would recommend everyone who stutters and is dealing with it to read book called Redifining stuttering by John C Harrison, it's a great book and by far the best tool i have got to understand stuttering, it goes deep into how stuttering happens and everything about it, it's excellent i have been more fluent after reading and understanding what the book is trying to explain. The amount of improvement and understanding i got from reading the book is so valuable and it created a paradigm shift in the way we think. If u don't want to visit any doctor or therapist i will just recommend reading this book it will do you more good, it's like a therapy and also u would recommend meditation, that's all.
