Just a few interview tips I just had an interview today and it went well so I thought I would share some tips. A little background: I have 6 years of experience and have done quite well for myself career wise. Anyways, firstly make sure you have the expected question written down and memorised (for some pws memorisation makes their stutter worse so i guess dont do it if thats the case for you). For example you should memorise your life or career story and make it interesting. For eg. if you changed a job why did you switch or what did you achieve etc. For other expected questions, use ChatGPT for help. Secondly, make sure you are dressed well, spend some money on a suit, tie and shoes. First impressions matter a lot Thirdly, be confident when you first meet the interviewer look them in the eye and smile and shake their hand (if thats normal in your culture). Normally i stutter when i have yo say my name but i DONT if the other person tells me their name first or talks first (weird right?), so i wait for the other to say their name then i say mine. Moving on when you sit, be confident and calm no matter what’s happening inside your brain and always smile. Also always make eye contact especially when the other person is talking and never look down. If you are uncomfortable with eye contact then look at their forehead or hair. Another tip that helps me when im talking is that I’m a bit animated as in I make hand gestures a lot. I think it takes my mind off stuttering and even helps me explain a point. Lastly, you are going to stutter and their will be some blocks here and there. Just move past them dont think about them. For the most part even the interviewer might not care as much as you do. So what if it takes you a second longer to say “liability” you still made your point. Even if you dont make it. Keep on trying! Good luck!!
