To answer your question. I believe it’s common in stutterers to lose their train of thought as we focus on how we say things instead of what we’re saying. What helped was when I shifted my thinking to what do I want to communicate and not how I do it. I butcher my words here and there, no biggie, the message is received to the listener and if it didn’t, I just repeat myself. If someone has a puzzled look, I make a joke about my stutter to ease the tension or if it’s not appropriate to make a joke, I just plainly state that I have a stutter. In my case, it’s all a matter of perspective. Did it improve my stutter? I’d say minimally. What improved greatly is my communication skills which is what really matters and you can have good communication skills even with a severe stutter. It’s based on experience and know what works and what doesn’t work from your own personal experience.
