Starting university and can’t say my own name Hi there, So I’m 19 and I’ve stuttered ever since I can remember. Throughout my life my stutter has gone through various levels of severity in which there has been periods where my stutter has nearly gone away then there has been times when my stutter has been at its worst. Right now my stutter is average, Im quite a covert stutterer so I can make my way through a conversation if I’m calm substituting words without making it obvious I even have a stutter- but that’s tiring. I’m moving into my college dorms next Friday and I’m most worried about introducing myself to others. I know this is a problem a lot of other stutterers have but I still can’t seem to get my head around it. There have been a few times in my life where I can say my name perfectly as a fluke, or when I’ve been drinking (I live in Ireland - legal drinking age is 18), but right now I’ve been finding it very hard to say both my first name and last name. If anyone has any tips, tricks, advice, they use when introducing themselves to others, I’d be incredibly thankful!
