Well, funny enough, I also work in the gaming industry :) and yes I’ve felt a bit limited in some ways. I see a lot of people in my position giving talks at GDC for example, and personally that sounds like a real challenge. I feel like I could do it given my past experiences, but it would be a struggle for sure. It’s easier for them to strive for things like that, but that’s not something I do and it definitely hurts my career. The possibility of giving a GDC talk came up at a recent work meeting since we have to start submitting for GDC talks next year, and I’ve sorta shied away from it. And I know it’s all just past experiences creeping in, but it’s just a habit.
