Does anyone feel that stuttering is apart of their identity and prefers to not use techniques they have learnt to speak more fluency? My partner has a stutter. They have gone to years of speech therapy but they don't like using the techniques they were taught. To them, it does not feel authentic to themselves and they prefer to speak with their stutter (as opposed to trying to aim for fluency). That is not to say they like stuttering, it is very frustrating to them. This got me thinking about how do other people view their stutters? Do all people that stutter feel like they want to achieve fluency or a some people very content with their stutter cause it is part of them? Is Do people that stutter resent being told their stutter should be fixed and the way stuttering is understood? Do you embrace your stutter?
