I won't try and speak on behalf of anyone, but as someone who also feels a similar sentiment about my stutter, I can give my perspective. For me, my stutter shaped my personality, drove my work ethic and filtered relationships. The people I have in my life who are close to me, are people I know support me and are lacking of judgement over my stutter. Both in school and work, I've worked my ass off to "prove" (not that it really needs proving) that my stutter is not a detriment to my performance, and as a result have become one of the most senior ranking individuals in my department in 2 years. I currently work in a customer service position, where I speak to clients fairly regularly... As far as my personality, there was a period of time where the bullying in school forced walls. Today though, I'm a stronger person emotionally for what I went through when I was younger. I have a pretty great sense of humor regarding my speech and openly crack jokes about it with friends and family. The crap I dealt with through middle school and into high school sucked, but looking back on who I am today I would not have it any other way.
