There is varying acceptance of our condition around the world? Where do you live currently? I live in Britain and I asked the same question as you when I was younger. I decided to become a self-employed web developer. What easier way to avoid conversation than to choose who you work with and primarily work alone? One day, my main client went under and I needed to find a job. I found one within a week. Since then I have been promoted every 2 years. Despite having a severe stutter, I am consistently rated as exceptional. I recently moved into a software architect role where I work across 5 teams validating and approving design decisions and doing a tonne of talks and presentations. If you are good at something, you will be able to do it. Especially if it is backed by some sort of skill. When you get into a role you will feel more confident and your speech will improve in many of the common situations you face. You will have bad days talking but your colleagues will respect you for both who you are and the ability you have. Businesses want to hire effective people who are passionate about what they do. Depending on the job there are a variety of tools to help you express yourself. This may be a whiteboard, a pen and paper or something else. I wish I had asked myself earlier. What I am good at and then gone out and proved to people how good I was. I would have gotten to where I am a lot sooner and avoided a lot of struggles along the way. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find something you enjoy doing.
