When I was given tools to 'help' my stutter and they didn't work, I often thought it was because I wasn't using the tools correctly or that I wasn't doing it right. It never occurred to me (and my therapist never told me) that they just might not work for me and my personal stutter. This feeling of inadequacy really turned me off of therapy and since grade school, I never went back. I'm 33 now.
