Makes sense to me. When excited, dopamine levels increase in the brain. For stutterers who inherently have elevated dopamine baseline levels, this makes stuttering even worse due to overactivation of motor control circuits, impairing timing of articulatory movements causing dysfluency. Modulation of dopamine in conjunction with fluency reshaping techniques seems to be the best way to improve fluency.
