How to get past mental blocks? I’ve had my stutter for almost all my life (I’m 18), and over time, it’s just gotten worse. I’ve never understood why, and it’s ruined pretty much everything in my life, from being able to participate in classes to just talking with friends. I came here to see what methods people use to not stutter; I went to speech therapy for several years when I was younger, but it never helped me. So after scrolling through this sub for a while, I noticed a lot of people saying that it’s all mental, it’s a mental block that happens in social situations. That makes sense, since I don’t really stutter when I’m alone, but my question is... how do you get past it????! I know it’s impossible to fully “cure” stuttering, but right now I can barely get through even just short sentences, I need to get past as much of it as I can. I’ve developed small vocal ticks like saying “umm” or “uhh” before certain sounds, but that’s not really a fix, it just makes things worse. What are the methods you all use that work??
