I have a toddler and started reading books to her every night when she was just a few months old. I was stuttering when first reading to her, probably a combination of horrible past reading out-loud experiences being relived and trying too hard to be perfect at reading each word. I started to really exaggerate the words to make it fun, almost like if I was an actor in a scene. I started realizing that I wasn’t stuttering reading to her anymore, and now use some of those techniques while speaking in public - making my presentations more enticing with hand gestures (well not too many) and injecting passion and excitement in my words. Maybe like acting and singing, you succumb to a flow and rhythm of speech that you focus less on specific words that may stutter on.
