If you can't speak you can't socialize regardless of how otherwise normal, interesting, intelligent, good looking, or funny you might be. No one cares. Socializing is based on speaking. I have a great family and small group of friends who are patient with me, but it's nearly impossible for me to branch out much from that. Even people who want to be nice don't really want to sit through the agonizing process of me getting my words out. I have lots to say but the time and effort it would take to say just isn't worth it to me or other people. I make up for it by having a lot of interests and trying to be the best I can in every other area.
