Yes, most of my close friends know I stutter, and I don't really have much trouble hanging out with them. But it's impossible to only hang out with the same people for the rest of your life, and most of this post applies to social events with new people or people I'm not really close with. Oh and I don't know where you're from, but where I'm from, just walking away from a gathering while waving seems weird.
