Hi - so glad to hear you’re going to the NSA conference for the first time. I remember my first time vividly - it really changed my life. I had never before met other people who stutter and I was 42 my first time. I now help coordinate the NSA First Timers stuff so hopefully I’ll meet you. As for flying, my first time I too went alone, from NY to Long Beach, California. I was a nervous wreck. I was comforted by the vomit bag that was close by which fortunately didn’t need to use! I also fortified myself with one or two of those teeny little alcohol bottles. It was a long trip so I had plenty of time to think, obsess and get myself in an absolute frenzy. But when I arrived at the hotel and heard other people who sounded like me, I felt like I was finally home. Don’t get me wrong - it was a little overwhelming and I needed lots of time to process everything I was experiencing, but I haven’t missed a conference since. Chicago will be my 13th in a row!
