Having read the comments on this thread, as an alternative perspective from others, may I suggest that this unfortunate incident could be viewed as a simple misunderstanding. Not everyone has experience with stuttering and just maybe the person who reported you was genuinely concerned and now feels absolutely terrible about reporting you for completely the wrong reason. As for HR revealing that you stutter, if someone reports something like that to HR, it’s their duty to follow up with the person and explain the resolution. I wouldn’t hold it against HR for doing their job. Sometimes unfortunate things happen in life because of bad luck and nothing else. My international marriage has had its fair share of misunderstandings due to cultural differences. Such is life. With a slight twist of perspective and sufficient time passing, maybe you can turn this unfortunate incident into a humorous episode. In all honesty, I actually laughed out loud when I first read your post because it reminded me of equally ridiculous incidents with my wife.
