Does Anybody else struggle with answering very obvious things (name, age etc) Hey Reddit, long-time stutterer here (heh), i just realized something, i stutter (block) the most in situations, where you have to answer very obvious questions. Because in those situations, your answer usually has to be immediately. If someone asks for your name, every second of delay in you answering will be weird and people will be wondering why you take so long to say your name. But in situations where you are allowed to think for a second? Way less problems! Not always completely fluid, but muuuch better and definitely more secure and confident. In school for example, if your teacher picks you to answer something hard, its much easier to answer and most of the time i was very fluid. But being at a party, job interview or ordering in a restaurant, people often ask very easy questions that you don’t really have to think about. 6 Weeks ago i had a wisdom teeth removal. Pretty okay experience, somewhat painful (local anesthetics only). Its pretty embarassing and sad, but the worst part about it? Going to the receptionist and making chit chat small talk with the doctor. I was pretty happy during the procedure and especially afterwards, because i had an excuse to talk less/not being able to talk normally, lol. I live in Europe and i’m pretty happy that we don’t have this „How are you“ culture when walking into a store like in the us. No offense, but its pretty meaningless, right? People have zero interest in you and just act fake polite to make you more comfortable to spent more money. This is EXACTLY the situation i’m talking about. Very easy/obvious question, but taking even a couple milliseconds longer than usual to answer and people start to wonder why. Its my biggest trigger for a block, definitely.
