I know we all hate to hear this, but slow down. Teachers generally shouldn’t speed up their speech because students need time to process what is being said. Show up to class prepared with a good idea of what you need to say. If you understand what it is that you are teaching, you should be able to find multiple ways to say it. Use visuals when you can as you teach. Pictures, graphs, tables, charts, written words. Be prepared for two possibilities that will likely come up. First is your students “understanding” what you said, many are too shy to say they didn’t understand you. Next is teasing, all teachers have experienced a rude or cruel comment from a student. Let those comments wash away like water off a ducks back.
