I've had a stutter my whole life, and had this same issue, but just reading the title of this post breaks my heart. I was at a magic show once in Atlantic City when I was a kid and he brought me on stage. Asked my name, and I couldn't get it out. "...you forgot your name?" and everyone laughed. Humiliating. I have this issue mostly with my last name. Because my last name is kinda long, I start with spelling it. Saying the letters first made it easy, and once the person mentally knows how to say it, for some reason that knowledge puts less pressure on *myself* to say it. Weird, but it works for me. For your question - maybe try that with your first name? If your first name is a bit long or unusual, it won't seem odd to spell it first, or at least begin to spell it. If not, it's just a matter of finding the best word to say *before* your name. There's: um, it's, my name is, my name's, uh/ah, etc. Sometimes I make a joke by giving them the first letter and having them guess, lol. Only works in casual situations of course, haha.
