I’m in a design engineering role (no computer or electrical). I’m happy with my role because I’ve progressed over the last 20 years on technical expertise versus soft skills of people management. I’m not suggesting you switch to something technical, but I have worked with PMs and various other groups and found PMs have to be perfect communicators, organizers, but get squeezed on all sides. Keep looking for other business management roles like internal audit, purchasing, or even quality that are extension of technical but more project management.
