It’s a great initiative. Stutterers are often ridiculed in media and society has no basic knowledge that every day is like a whole new battle for us. It’s like fighting your own self every single day. It’s like having to play dumb for forgetting your own name because you knew inside that you would stutter on your first syllable, so it’s easier to play dumb even though you may be the smartest person in the room. Or having to think really fast and find a synonym or a description for a word that you plan on saying in the middle of your speech…and the result can often be some kind of a wacky sentence like - I should take the green tickets that can buy me stuff and leave, instead of just saying - I should take the money and leave 😂 But one the plus side, in my personal opinion, it helps us become better problem solvers. I always find creative solutions for making my life easier. For example, for my master thesis, I felt really anxious about my speech, so I made a video instead of a powerpoint presentation - my professors loved it and said that it was very creative and I could talk more freely because they were focused on the video. But at its core, it’s a real struggle and society should be more patient and understanding with people like us 🙂 Thank you for trying to spread that awareness 🙂
