I’m a bedside RN in a surgical trauma ICU. Admittedly there is a lot of communication. My stutter has never been an issue for me, but you will have to talk a lot. As a patient advocate to Doctors, to your patients, their family, to coworkers, radiology, and even transport. Usually this is face to face but it will also happen over the phone. I enjoy my job and am very proficient in what I do. If you have a passion for this I say go for it, just be aware there is a lot of communication throughout the 12 hour shift. Alternatively there are many careers you can pursue that aren’t bedside nursing and may have less of an emphasis on verbal communication.
