Little distraction goes a long way. I think what ever relieves us from compounding the effect seems like it helps to the naked eye. It also likely has you talking in a different pace, maybe slower and more relaxed than usual as you're mindful of not swallowing it. So in an instance where you might wanna clench in and force through a stutter or block, instead you're chewing.
