>Regarding the stories: I do think some are legit and some are fake. I have spoken to people who have this freeing mentality about their speech. Those people are not fake. They really have let-go. I do agree that these people could say they like their stutter but I don't believe that. I don't think anybody really likes their stutter. If people could change it, they would. I know I would. Stupidly, I screwed up a word in that response and it completely changed the meaning of the whole thing... Here is what it should have said: I think those "success stories" are simply that. Stories. I don't think they come from a person who has**n't** gone many years after feeling the breakthrough. It's like how a person with depression will scream "I am cured!" for the first 6 months of treatment. Then, the medication/tool wears off and they are back to square 1 I meant it like "I am sure there are several people who got to happy points in life and they felt like they were happy with it and conquered it. But, I bet that after some time, they relapsed back into disliking it and it began bothering them at times." >So to make up for your stutter, you excelled in other areas? No, not really. Other areas just came naturally. I honestly didn't have to work that hard and that is why I said am so fortunate there. And, that is why I tried to stress I wasn't trying to sound like I am conceited. (I feel like it always does and then it makes me feel like an ass for saying it. But, it is important to the point I am trying to make) The point was that all of that good fortune doesn't matter due to the interactions I deal with when stuttering. Most people still treat me differently and it sometimes effect me. Just like you said, some just can't get passed it. They truly are assholes and, like you said, you have to deal with them all the damn time. So, I personally don't believe anyone can truly 100% get rid of their hangups with their stutter. Maybe there are a few out there. But, I would bet money even those who claim to be the happiest with their stutter are only 1 bad interaction away from laying awake in bed half the night due to frustration.
