Please read my answer to the end. I know it is very long, but I promise you the answer is legit . If you don't want to read the entire message, just search up Lee Lovett 'How to stop Stuttering and Love speaking', And download the StopStutter app. Lee Lovett stuttered for 30 years before he finally beat it. Most speech therapists either have never stuttered a day in their life, or still stutter. So their advice is not really from experience and thus will not really be equipped to help someone who actually stammer. Lee lovett has written countless books on the subject and he fully understands how to attain speech fluency. The only solution that I have come across is finding the community WSSA. World stop stuttering association. It was found by Lee Lovett who is an ex-stutterer. Join the StopStutter App and read his book 'How to stop Stuttering and Love Speaking'. I suggest you give it a read. It has been two months since I have joined the program and it has helped me tremendously and I am now I am on the path to fluency . Definitely go check out the app and read about the WSSA community. Hundreds of people are overcoming their stammer. Just to explain the process in brief, he has this Neuroscience Method which consists of the one-two- three punch which basically consists of three things that you need to do daily to retrain your mind to remove the past stuttering memories and make new fluency memories Step 1 - one hour daily reading aloud. Most people who stutter are able to read aloud alone fluently. So continue doing that. It will really help you. Try to speak with passion. Step 2 - auto suggestion/self hypnosis. In his book, as mentioned above, he has these things called affirmations which are positive thoughts that we have to say to ourselves daily. We should say 10 different affirmations, 20 times each , twice a day. Some examples are: Every day, and in every way, my speech grows better and better. I love speaking, I love saying my name [Name]. When I speak, I focus on PASSION and JOY. Etc Repeating these phrases on a daily basis consistently helps you to retrain your mind, remove any negative thoughts and keep you positive and happy. Walking in to any conversation after repeating these phrases gives you a mental boost that really reduces your anxiety and helps you feel more relaxed and confident. Step 3 - crutches. These are some speech tools that help you to avoid a stutter. In his book, he has 13 crutches that he has developed over the years. I won't mention all of them here, but some of them are Skip the first letter of the word you feel you are about to block on Insert a sound/word in front of the feared word. E.g. if you stammer on your name. And your name is John. If someone asks you your name you could say "Well.. John. Make sure you jam the phrase/sound before the word and don't leave any gaps. Coach Lee explains all these crutches very well through short videos in the StopStutter App. There is an extensive library of videos of him coaching People who stutter (PWS as he likes to say), and watching those feels like personal coaching sessions. Also in the community, there are daily practice sessions where you are able to practice using the crutches with PWS an PWSS (people who stopped stuttering) These are really helpful, speaking from experience. Just by reading the book, and watching videos, you won't understand the methods described, until you practice them yourself. So again, download the app, read his book And I promise you, if you commit yourself to the program, you will be cured
