I don't know what the consensus is in the medical community (if there is one), but it seems strange to call stuttering a mental illness because it doesn't affect the way I think (not directly anyway). On the other hand, it is a condition in my brain that causes me to act in abnormal ways. To me it's a mental illness that manifests more like a physical disability than a typical mental illness. But idk.
