The hard thing about stuttering is you come off perfectly normal until you open your mouth. I saw these two girls at the train station that looked semi happy and interested to talk to me. One of them asked me for directions and when I replied I did a slight stutter on a word, like a jitter, and I could see that the tone has shifted in both of them. It’s that split second look of realization that something is off. It pains me every time. Especially when it happens on introductions.
