I'm torn on this. I briefly apologize when I'm in the middle of a block because I acknowledge I am either holding up a line, or taking more of a person's time than usually required. I think that's a cool, decent thing for me to do. On the other hand, like you said, don't apologize for being yourself. But, doesn't being courteous count for something?
