I would never recommend Benzodiazapine meds (Xanax, Valium, Ativan etc) to anyone for any reason after what they did to my life. The only purpose I have seen them not abused: one tab before an MRI or a flight maybe. If anyone prescribes you benzos with an as needed Rx you should be wary. I did not get enough follow-up care in spite of seeing the Dr every 2 weeks. Benzos can have side effects that aren't expected and Drs didn't warn me about risk taking behavior or the side effects from withdrawal. Basically the meds can be prescribed as needed but to get off of them you need to be tapered off. Suddenly stopping or even having a relief in symptoms and forgetting to take them can result in seizures even in people who have never had them before. Benzos and alcohol are the two drugs whose withdrawals can kill. High doses of CBD are the only replacement I have found for anxiety medication. Dispensaries male extended release tablets that really help me at least not melt down in a day of working with customers. THC reduces my stutter more but is not appropriate for when at work. There is an 20:1 CBD:THC tincture that did not get me high when used daily but it's not cheap. There is a product called Rick Simpson Oil RSO that can be made with CBD heavy strains of weed. It results in high doses of CBD with residual THC and it just works great for me. C considering the source: because weed is the only thing that has offered relief before it was legal I took a lot of risks to get product that was not the safest. To this day I smoke about a half oz every two weeks Highly reccomend dry herb vapes like the Mighty and Crafty they get you medicated without the toll on your lungs. Smoking is my vice because it provides immediate relief while edible products you have to trust they will work for the first 2hrs then they finally do. Weed never has hurt me or my life as much as anxiety meds have. I don't think they should be so widely available they are dangerous in my opinion as someone that has taken them.
