I don't agree. Stuttering IS a legit disability however both stutterer and non stutterer seem to totally ignore this fact. I can't think of another disability where the disabled individual is told or there is some kind of expectation that the sufferer can train/work themselves out of their disabilty. The whole concept is so ludicrous and disrespectful. There are very few people who legitimately overcome their stutters with speech therapy and hard work. For the vast majority stuttering will be a lifelong disabilty they will never overcome. If you develop a stutter as a child but dont overcome it.. its on you personally. But if you have a brain injury or suffer a stroke and develop a speech issue and even after rehabilitation you dont regain fluency its not your fault because fluency shouldnt be expected in that situation. It doesn't make sense. I also strongly believe all this hardwork, speech therapy, cure bs is why stuttering isn't treated seriously and why so little money or research is invested into finding the cause('s) behind this disabilty. Also not treating it as a legit disabilty is why discrimination and ridicule compared to other disabilties is still accepted.
