I think it depends on how you define “control you.” My husband stutters pretty severely and I know something that helped him reframe things was realizing that, yes, his stutter does make a lot of things more difficult and does constrain him in ways, but nobody lives life entirely unconstrained. His dad has dyslexia. One of his sisters has MS. My mom has all sorts of dietary restrictions. And those are kind of big, obvious ones. Everybody’s life is constrained by things, and is limited by various realities of their lives, but you can still live a really good, full life with those constraints. You don’t have to let them control you and keep you from doing the many things you can do. Hope that isn’t toxically positive.
