Hey there! I'm a graphic designer/videographer/web designer and a person who stutters! I've always been into the arts but looking back to when I decided where I wanted to take my career, I'd be lying if I said my speech wasn't a factor. Although I love my work and what I do, there's always part of me that wonders where my life would have taken me without my stutter. Nonetheless, it's brought me to where I am today, and I'm very happy about it! I have a moderate-severe stutter and it does sometimes get in the way of my daily work, as I do on occasion have to speak to clients/CEOs/managers, etc. A big part of my job is explaining to someone why they might need my work, why it's beneficial, and how are I am going to do it. Explaining your ideas and your purpose behind them is important if you want to become a successful designer, which was not something I expected when I decided on this career honestly, but I learned more and more that I'd have to face that fact as I went through school. It was tough, but I made it out alive. If you do have to talk on the phone to explain something, face it head on! It's not going to kill you. Sometimes if you do feel uncomfortable about it, advertise that you have a stutter before you start speaking. It will clear the air and might ease your mind a little so you can explain yourself better! You also brought up a good point. Even though you have a stutter, if you're a talented designer, let your work speak for itself! If someone sees your work and it's awesome (as I'm sure it is) they'll be impressed and want to work with you! Keep working yourself and your craft, and don't let your stutter stop you from doing anything you want to do! If you want to call that client or apply for that job, using your speech as an excuse will get you no where! The interview process sucks but you'll get better the more and more you do, and eventually you'll find the right fit. Feel free to DM me anytime with any questions! Love to chat. Or if you'd like to work together something, maybe we can design something to raise awareness about stuttering!
