I'd say there's definitely different schools of thought. If you're of the opinion that your stutter can't be "cured" then acceptance is definitely the way to go – otherwise you'll just keep torturing yourself until the day you die. If you think your stutter can be "cured" i.e. you're actively working on "unlearning" the habit of stuttering, you don't need or even want acceptance. I've stuttered for 23 years and always struggled between accepting it and still wanting nothing more than to finally get rid of it. Someone in this forum wrote me a message and suggested me the book called "How to Stop Stuttering and Love Speaking" by Lee G Lovett. I'm currently reading/working through it and am loving it so far. I'm already noticing my stutter decreasing more and more. Love the approach and can recommend it to everyone who wants to give getting rid of stuttering a try.
