Stuttering while abroad

Stuttering while abroad I am currently studying abroad in another English-speaking country, but I am surrounded with many different languages from other international students, with differing levels of English fluency. I have met people with a variety of different accents. I have lived in the city for months, and I have gained a level of independence I’ve never had been for. The weirdest thing, is I have begun to stutter less and less the more I’ve been here. I’ve done things I would have never thought of doing before, like going up to somebody to ask for directions, and asking strangers where they’re from and making some small-talk. I don’t really know how this happened, but living abroad has made me more conscious of the way I speak in subtle ways, and it has drastically helped my fluency. I don’t know if this is something that has ever had any research done on it. Years of speech therapy, anxiety medication, and learning techniques, yet studying abroad has been the best treatment I have ever had. I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience, or if there’s been any research into this at all because I’m very curious about the mechanisms that caused this for me.
