It’s easier said than done, but don’t let people do this shit. I got to turn this around on someone once and I’ll never forget it. I sat down next to a girl at dinner after a volleyball game and introduced myself. Stuttered on my name as I usually do. “My name is Ja-Ja-Jack” She looked at me funny and said laughing, “Are you sure?” I looked her dead in the eyes and said “I’m a person who stutters and sometimes I have trouble with my name.” I’ll never forget the look on her face and she fell over herself apologizing for the rest of the dinner. I dream about it sometimes.
