Different people obviously have different things that work for them. Some people prefer techniques, and others prefer to let go of the physical and mental struggle and accept it in order to stammer with less tension and struggle. Sometimes focusing on fluency too much can have the opposite effect. Because you're so focused on it your brain is constantly in this mode of 'must be fluent, must be fluent, must be fluent' which can sometimes lead to more tension and mental build up to speaking. Focusing on communication skills as a whole can be useful - eye contact, body language, use of facial expression and gesture, story telling skills.
