Hey there! I worked in the retail and service industries for a long time. The thing your managers will care about the most is your work ethic, your professional manner, and your consistent punctuality. You’d be shocked how many people show up to interviews looking like hot messes and without a resume, or how common it is when someone gets hired and consistently no-shows shifts; is always late with a bullshit excuse, or completely blows off their work on the clock. If you’re professional, punctual and work hard, your managers will be on your side. Also, if you’re worried about discrimination, check your state laws—in my state, stuttering is a disability that is protected by law, and if an employer tries to fire you over it, you have a lot of grounds to take legal action. I know you’re nervous and I don’t want to make that worse, so I’ll tell you I had over 10 jobs in retail/service over the course of about 20 years before an employer ever brought it up and it was an issue they tried to terminate me over. However, I was 3 months in, was always súper profesional, punctual and worked hard, so I sent them an email (ALWAYS get things in writing) explaining my distress at their action and very clearly wrote “legally protected disability” at least twice in that email. They didn’t fire me, I was actually promoted twice, and we left on excellent terms. That story above is the absolute worst case scenario—I doubt you’ll have to deal with it, I didn’t have to for 20 years. But keep that piece of knowledge in your back pocket if you ever have issues with management. Good luck OP! You’ll do great!
