When someone's stutter is so severe as to be disabling, as mine was for many years, then it is akin to a physical disability. The advice to 'just' whatever completely ignores context like state of mind, environment, a person's energy levels, their stage in life. Imagine telling a fit person to go on a 5 mile run and they might be able to do that fairly easily. Now imagine telling the same person to go on a 5 mile run after they've just run a marathon. It ain't gonna happen (unless they're a super endurance runner). Without taking into account the state someone is in, the advice to 'just' do something is meaningless at best, and harmful at worse as it can make them feel inadequate, and we've got problems without that shit piled on top.
