I’m a stuttering 38m, and have been stuttering since the third grade. I’ve definitely struggled with dating over the years, but not because people had an issue with the stuttering. I’m the one that had issue with it and put undue importance on it. It’s something that I’ll have my entire life, like any condition someone is born with, and it sucks but that’s ok. Just know the dating pool at our ages doesn’t give a crap about stuttering, and if they do, who wants them? Not me. You shouldn’t either because it shows their character is lacking. I’ve been in a wonderful relationship going on a year and a half and I stutter quite often…more so the last 9 months than the previous 9 years, and she doesn’t even notice it anymore. It’s just “me.” So my advice is to focus on being you, not being the you minus the stuttering. Easier said than done…I still struggle with that in certain situations, but when I can get past the negative voice in my head, people ultimately respond to your character, not the speech impediment.
