Absolutely, confidence is key! I recently gained a lot of confidence, and my stutter actually got worse - because I stopped using speech techniques or avoiding words, I just say what I want when I want now. And despite my stutter being *worse*, people are far more confortable with it. It holds me back far less. People read the signals you're giving off, and confidence in your stutter signals it's all okay regardless of how bad it is.
