Howdy, Im a mild stutterer, but when i get nervous, it increases to a moderate severe. sooooooo annoying, literally I prepared for 2 weeks for an interview for a PhD program and wasn’t stuttering more than 20 percent in any of my practice dry runs. I memorized my 10 minute “tell me about yourself”. But once I had an interview, it was for a top 15 PhD program in curriculum and instruction and literally stuttered like a moderate to severe (somewhere in the middle). Im gonna find out if I got in, 3 weeks from now. So I feel you, i was so sad. I already am accepted by PhD programs (the 4 programs are ranked 20th, 55th, 65th and 67th- theres hope for stutterers like us). Im 29 yo black male 1 bachelors degree, 2 masters degrees (graduating this may with my second), 2 years of teaching experience, and 1 publication. I could go on about myself lol, I like to talk about myself haha. But here’s the advice: - memorize the parts (like memorize to wear you dont need notes) stuttering prevents me from thinking quickly on the fly and speaking my thoughts. - know more information about things in nursing , perhaps certain examples that other applicants might share but would look over one certain aspect of patient care or etc. - I find that being able to know more kinda helps to lessen the curse of stuttering. - also, dont look sad that you stutter during the interview, it makes it seem like youre not ready or a good fit. - There were so manny times I wanted to feel sad about stuttering while I was in the interview, but I faked it. I really hope I get in. Btw, in the other 4 interview, I stuttered a lot, i would say at a moderate level.
