People who say it’s cute are saying it because, they don’t really know what to say. Especially if they don’t know before hand. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. If you’re meeting online first, I’d squeeze it in somewhere you stutter. Most people don’t care, but it’s nice to at least let them know.
