My Bilingualism and Stuttering I am French and Irish, I speak both English and French, both of them being learned at the same time although since I live in Ireland I only speak French to the French side of my family and as a result my proficiency in French is not as high as in my English (English being a primary language used in Ireland), I have noticed over the years my stammer has diminished alot in English in comparison to my French where it is abysmal. When I speak English I may only get a block every so often, the frequency changes depending on the day and how I feel, yet with French it is nearly after every word I say, it nearly makes it impossible to speak. When I was 12 years old (I'm now 23) my stammer was at it's peak for both languages, I was practically disabled by it, but year after year of speaking in English it started to slowly dissipate, almost as if my brain was rewiring itself, whilst in French I never got the interactions other than my mother and close family via Skype calls to stutter my way out so to speak, which shows It can diminish itself the more you speak, the more you practice in real situations the more fluent you can become!
