I don't know what you mean by being responsible here. Nobody said anything about being or not being responsible. But are we to blame for our stutter? Is our anxiousness the culprit? My point is no. The people that claim that addressing psychological issues will have a positive impact on fluency, are intentionally or unintentionally, putting the blame on us. Is the person with epilepsy to blame for their seizures? How about the person with Parkinsons disease that has slow movement? Or the person with Tourettes that has ticks? I don't think so. No amount of self reflection will alleviate those disorders, and stuttering is no different. Nobody said anything about a cure either. Cures don't exist in medicine, period. But you're right, stuttering is genetic, 80-85% genetic. This means that there is a greater likelihood that we will be able to address stuttering by addressing the mechanisms going on in the brain. We have already started, there are already ways to address what's going on in the brain. Are they cures? I wouldn't call them that at all.
